Last fall, I went to Italy for my first vacation in 20 years. That trip reignited my love of travel. I didn’t plan to fall in love, but I did: with the food, the culture, and the people. You don’t need a significant other to travel - if you want to go, just do it!
We boarded the bus and headed to Umbria for a wine tasting and lunch in Orvieto, before finishing our trip in Rome. We took the subway to dinner, and walked through Piazza Navona, made wishes in the Trevi fountain, and the Pantheon.
We split into two groups to visit the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Church and the Pietà. The Sistine Chapel was incredible - the hues of blues were so vibrant! A big plus or me was getting fresh water from the fountains - something I did every day I was in Rome.
The following day, we took a walking tour of San Clemente and the Colosseum, followed by the Forum. We had some free time in the afternoon, and I took advantage of the quiet time to catch up on some laundry and journaling at a nearby cafe, before our farewell dinner.
I stayed for a few extra days in Rome with my friend Megan, who lives two blocks from the Vatican. I shopped, ate, saw art, and drew inspiration simply by walking the streets and getting lost. I found a little neighborhood outdoor library in an alley. The best finds seemed to be on the side streets!
